"Hey, nice van."

Well, as I was driving my* sweet van yesterday, it hit 88,000 miles.

That is insane. But when I think of when we took it to Ohio and back, and then up & downstate so many times in 2004 it really makes sense.

Poor van. Maybe I'll take it to the carwash as a special gift.

Thank you, beautiful Oldsmobile** Silhouette for providing us with movie-watching, cd/cassette listening, power-door opening, and the oh-so-perfect for winters in Maine: heated seats.

You are my friend, even though you freaked out that one time on the Centerline road and fishtailed and spun around and then put me in the ditch. I have forgiven you, and all is well. And, uh, I'm sorry about almost snapping part of your belly off when I went over that really weird driveway on Dudley Street.

And who could forget the crazy bicyclist at the Niagra Falls parking lot? We were going about 5mph, and then *WHIZZZZ* *CRASH* *people in van gasp*. The bicyclist was literally going 20mph, and then wanted to blame us and say that we weren't watching where we were going. Hogwash. We knew better. I hope you have recovered from the shock of that experience.

You have served us well, and we love you for it.

*- not really "my van"...more like "my parents' van".
**-my heart breaks when I think of how Oldsmobile is no longer....

I can really relate to that. At one point our family owned two full sized vans, a utility van, and a shuttle bus. We still have the utility van and a full sized van.

Granted we've never had the heated seats nor the capacity to watch movies. We have had alot of 'bonding experiences' if that's what 12+ hour road trips multiplied by several days voyage of a family of eleven people, and a weeks worth of lugage, is.

I think the utility van is dying though. *snif* No more surfing in it's expansive cargo area whilst flying down the freeway with nothing to indicate the existance of a suspension system of any significance.

Hiveradical...who are you? Do I know you? Or did you just happen to blogsurf onto my blog...?

Either way, thanks for the comment!

I just blog surfed, I believe, on to one of your friends blogs and saw that they had some potentialy more riviting blogs than what the blog surfing tends to produce. So when I can find a route to learning about interesting people without the risk of running into the more unsavory or profane then I take that path. Hopefully I could reach a point where I never had to blogsurf and risk the poison that's put out there by sick souls.

Anywho, I appreciated your thankfulness expressed to even the seemingly mundane automobile. And the lighthearted manner in which you gave thanks struck me. I'm LDS (Mormon) and one of our scriptures states--

And in nothing doth man offend God, or against none is his wrath kindled, save those who confess not his hand in all things, and obey not his commandments.

So I really respect your thankfulness for those things that are essentialy from God that even I've found myself taking for granted at times, forgetting that I'm one of a very small swath of humanity that's been able to go from 0-60 mph simply by pushing my foot down on a pedal that requires very little exertion on my part (saying this even after considering the means of paying for, and keeping in good repair and filled with gasoline, those wonderfull and great yet at times pain in the *%#$ contraptions we call automobiles.
